2019 changed so much; a lot has changed in life. I found the decision to send my children back to a brick and mortar to be more difficult because my daughter is more prone to ailments due to her fragile immune system. I couldn't stand to think of putting her in danger, and sending her back to school would've posed a serious risk.
At this time, the thought of my other two children bringing back germs was on my mind heavy! Sending them to a traditional classroom could harm my oldest and even though they don't have the same health risks the thought of the world, in the state it was in, helped me make an unselfish decision.
I gave careful consideration to what would be best for each of my three children when I made this choice. Protecting them took precedence over all other considerations, even though homeschooling was a difficult decision that needed preparation, dedication, and major lifestyle changes; I brought up the matter with them after we had some conversation so they could weigh in on the choice. We collectively as a family determined that homeschooling was the best choice. They all agreed that they felt most at ease remaining at home, and our journey began with that decision made by all of us.
Even though it hasn't always been easy, knowing that we're maintaining my family's safety and health has allowed me to continue homeschooling. We’ve gotten closer, adjusted to new routines, and have found creative ways to continue learning. While the pandemic may have thrown us into a new reality, it also offered us a chance to strengthen our relationships, stand by one another, and make choices that put our family unity and health first.
